Anthropic releases Claude 3.5 Sonnet

Claude 3.5 Sonnet improved coding and reasoning while keeping the speed and price of Anthropic's mid-tier model.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet beat Anthropic's previous Opus model on many of the company's evaluations while remaining faster and cheaper. It launched in Claude, the API, Bedrock, and Vertex AI.

This was one of those releases where the middle model became the obvious default. Better capability did not arrive as a more expensive flagship. It arrived in the model people could actually afford to keep using.
