Anthropic introduces Claude

Claude arrived with a different emphasis from the start: useful, steerable, and deliberately cautious. Anthropic offered Claude and the faster Claude Instant through chat and an API.

I remember this as the point when the post-ChatGPT market stopped looking like a one-company story. The competition was not only about benchmark scores. It was also about what kind of assistant people would trust enough to use every day.
