Russia confirms AI-assisted drone units in Ukraine
Russia's defense minister said two detachments using AI-assisted drones were deployed in eastern Ukraine and in the Belgorod and Kursk regions.
On October 11, 2024, Russia publicly confirmed that two detachments using AI-assisted drones had been deployed. Reuters reported that the systems used automatic image recognition and target lock.
The disclosure provides a firm public date for deployment claims. It does not establish the first Russian use, and public wartime claims still require caution.
