Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini added longer reasoning and were trained with substantially more compute on xAI's Colossus cluster.
xAI released Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini with reinforcement-learning-based reasoning that could run for seconds or minutes. The company said training used ten times the compute of its previous models.
The model race was becoming an infrastructure race in plain sight. Grok 3 was as much a story about Colossus and rapid scaling as it was about the chat product on X.
